Ingredients

  • 150g (approx 1 cup) Frozen fruit of choice (melon, pineapple, mango, peach and strawberry all work great) For reference: Roughly 2 slices of melon/pineapple sticks or 1 cup of strawberries
  • ⅓ cup (80ml) Yogurt (optional)

Instruction

Get the fruit ready and freeze it overnight. For example, peaches and mangoes should be frozen whole after being peeled. Cut up fruit like bananas and melons into big chunks.

You can put yogurt in a bowl or jar. To make the frozen fruit look nice on top of the yogurt, use a microplane or any other fine grater you like.

Serve right away.

Top Tips

Choose bigger pieces of fruit to make grating easy. I like leaving the rind on watermelons when I slice them so I can use them as handles.

For the best experience, eat your cut fruit right away. It’s cold and soft, and it melts quickly, so serve it right away.

FAQ

Q1. Is this recipe suitable for babies?

Yes, for six months. It’s no longer dangerous to choke on frozen fruit that has been sliced. You can serve the shaved fruit ice plain or add a little baby’s milk to make it creamier. If they have already been exposed to dairy safely, you can also mix it with the yogurt.

Q2. Can you make this ahead of time?

This recipe tends to melt quickly, so I don’t suggest making it ahead of time. You can store it in the freezer ahead of time, but it will become solid and lose its fluffy structure.
