Introduction: Cauliflower ear, also called wrestler’s ear, is an abnormality that happens when the ear is hit hard. A hematoma forms in the outer ear, cutting off blood flow to the cartilage and causing it to die and swell. When you get hurt and blood builds up under the skin of your outer ear, you might get a cauliflower ear.

A tumor is what this is. If the hematoma doesn’t drain well or gets infected, cauliflower ear can happen. Sports injuries from things like boxing, wrestling, and mixed martial arts are a common reason. If you don’t fix the injury that made the blood build up in the first place, the cartilage in your outer ear may scar and change shape.

This could make your ear look funny. If someone treats the damage right away, they might be able to get rid of the blood that has built up under the skin of the ear. If the injury isn’t addressed, the scars and deformities in the cartilage may need to be fixed with plastic surgery to bring back the shape of the ear. The shape of the ear might not be able to be fixed in all cases.
